My 10 Most Productive iPhone Apps

Because I do almost everything from my iPhone (as opposed to my laptop), I’ve had to find apps to help me actually BE PRODUCTIVE. For instance, I have a tumblr, and thankfully THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT. So here is a list of my most productivity-enhancing apps.

(Note: I’m not going to write “app” after each title; we all know that’s what we’re discussing.)

1. WORDPRESS. Yes, you guessed it, I’m using WordPress to write this!

2. BLOGPRESS. It lets you post to multiple blogsites including WordPress, Typepad, Blogspot. Very handy. Runner-up: iBLOGGER, Blogspot’s own app. These 2 apps work well in conjuction with each other.

3. TUMBLR. There are many Tumblr “clients” out there but this and #4 below are hands-down the best. For tumblelogs.

4. TUMBLR GEAR. If you have a Tumblr, you need this. It doesn’t do all the things the Tumblr app does, but it does one thing extremely well: reblogs. I don’t see how anyone could reblog without it, because on an iPhone that process is maddeningly slow and cumbersome. Unless you have this app.

5. MOBILE PHOTOS. This is a Flickr client and I prefer it over the official Flickr app, which is beautifully designed but much slower than even using the Flickr site from the Safari browser. If you post to blogs you’re going to need access to pictures and this app is fast, easy, and so PRODUCTIVE!

6. PHOTOBUCKET is another great source for pictures, as is runner-up TAPTOU. They let you quickly search, copy, and paste links.

7. TWITTELATOR. Now obviously Twitter should be on any list. I prefer Twittelator to the other clients, but whichever one you prefer, use them as your techno-muse to help find topics that inspire you. Which leads naturally to…

8. INSTAPER. One of the first apps I downloaded, and the thing has never stopped evolving! I could never keep track of all the inspirations the Twitter muse sends me without it.

9. SHOZU. Shozu does so many things that I could write a whole post on it alone. It not only manages multiple blogs like #2 above, but it lets you post and receive feeds from Flickr, Facebook, and just about any other site. Really, on this one I have to just refer you to the app store description. It does everything.

10. MOMENTO. Finally, when you’re doing so many things from a phone, you need a way to keep track of this frenzy of productivity. Momento is like a diary that syncs with all your social streams. I love its calendar view, wich shows dots on the days you produced things, and the day view, which documents each “social moment” in detail. This is great for people like me, who can never keep track of anything. I love looking at the calendar and seeing all those dots that say “Look how productive you’ve been!”

In conclusion, each of these apps make it possible for me to publish several blogs, maintain an online presence, and yes, FEEL PRODUCTIVE. And if I can do that, anybody can.

Henry Darger

I was wandering around the Internet today when I happened to run into a familiar name: Henry Darger. I remembered reading about him in the Fortean Times a couple of years ago. I was very interested in him then, and now I have found new reasons to want to learn more about him. In particular I want to read his other book (the less famous one), Crazy House. His famous book has a very long title, but it’s the story of 7 children called the Vivian Girls. In Crazy House the Vivian Girls are forced to live in a haunted house and confront the demon there! Strangely, I don’t remember the Fortean Times mentioning that one. They were focused on his magnum opus. I’m also intrigued by a novel or story he wrote about a tornado named “Sweetie Pie.”
